Taska Damansara Utama Learning Steps, Petaling Jaya

Coming back to this preschool as a parent — more than 30 years after being a student myself — has been a meaningful and eye-opening experience. I remember it as an academically focused school, and some of that foundation has stayed with me until today. But now, seeing it through my children’s experiences, I’ve come to appreciate how much the school has evolved. Both my children began their preschool journey here — one at just 9 months old, the other at 2.5 years — and after nearly two years, I’ve seen strong, steady growth in both of them. As a parent, I’ve always looked for a more holistic learning environment — one that combines exploration, creativity, and academic grounding. This preschool brings all of that together in a well-rounded, age-appropriate way. The curriculum encourages hands-on learning and discovery. From arts and crafts to sensory play and weekly outdoor activities, there’s a healthy balance of structure and freedom that supports their development in meaningful ways. What stands out most is how much they enjoy going to school. Even on long weekends or during holidays, they ask when they can return and often talk about their teachers. That kind of natural engagement is a great sign of a positive learning environment. This preschool is doing exactly what I hoped for — preparing them well for the future while giving them a strong and enjoyable start. As a former student and now a parent, I’m genuinely pleased with how far the school has come.

My daughter Suri started joining Taska when she was just a young infant. Now she is 5 years old. After school one day, Suri was singing in the car the whole way back and I passed her my phone to record her singing right before we reached home. To be honest, she rarely catches the lyrics of a song, at least to sound as much similar to the lyrics. But my husband and I were over the moon yesterday playing back this recording over and over again, just amazed and impressed at how far she’s come. She could even sing in Mandarin fluently and accurate pronunciation! That’s amazing! Thank you Ms Grace and to all the teachers, educators and caretakers at the Taska and PJKK for constantly pushing Suri beyond her capabilities, to encourage her and include her always.

I am very blessed to have found this school 2 years ago. The teachers are genuine, friendly, caring and committed to teach and care for the children as if it was their own children. I can go to work in peace knowing that they are in good hands.

When my wife and I newly came to Malaysia from Vietnam, we actually struggled to find a good mentor for our twins who were 4-year old. We had to adapt to the unfamiliar language and customs here. Both of our sons also struggled to learn the language because they only knew to speak Vietnamese and Cantonese. Naturally, any parents would want their children to succeed so we enrolled them on this great daycare called Taska Damansara Utama. Unlike other daycares, this one engages with the children there and makes them feel like they’re at home. After just a month, I begin to see improvement in my pair of twins. For the first time ever, I heard them spoke English, Mandarin and Malay. Even words couldn’t express how happy my wife and I were. When they were old enough to join the elite program in the Learning Steps Academy, my sons started learning advanced subjects at the level of a standard 1 student before even going to primary school. Years after years had passed, from being an only Vietnamese and Cantonese speaking twins, they now fluently speak five languages, adding on English, Mandarin and Malay. In a blink of an eye, my proudness for the both of my sons turned into anxiousness because they were going to enter high school. Plus, the pandemic hit and it impacted us badly. I recall my life during high school when I was a gangster and I was barely passing everything. I wish my sons would be smarter to make better decisions. The only source of knowledge they could get was through the Learning Steps Academy online course because the school didn’t even bother to do online teaching. When their finals came, they did it through their laptop on a Google form. To be honest, I think that whole year was wasted for my two boys. On the next year when physical class restarted, I knew this was going to be a challenge because they have never been exposed to this kind of environment. On their first term exam, their grades started dropping like a plane nosediving from the air. I realized how badly this was going to end up so I had no choice but to sign them up for extra tuitions. After a few months of studying until 8:30 p.m. everyday, their grades were saved especially their History and Geography subjects. From failing, those two subjects became 70+ percent. I have no idea how I can show my gratitude towards the teacher of the Learning Steps Academy so I will express them through words- To Teacher Michael, your constant aid for the academy my children with their English and their knowledge about the world are much obliged. To Teacher Grace, please accept my deepest gratitude for your teaching of Chinese, Mathematics, Science and even life! Lastly, To Cikgu Ain, it has been such a blessing for your charming ability to teach the school Malay, no one could do it better. I will give my continuous support towards the Taska and Academy.
